Buddy’s Snack Food Company Essay

The case discusses the scenario of Buddy’s Snack Food Company. It is a family owned company that has produced and marketed potato chips since 1951. Buddy’s business quickly turned in to a multi million dollar franchise, competing with the likes of Frito Lay, but is losing its market share. Buddy’s son, Buddy Jr. , now runs the company and recently, his son Mark has joined the company. After joining as a salesperson, he was quickly promoted to sales manager with a fresh MBA in marketing. Mark has been making some substantial changes in the sales division and employees have been reacting to it. This paper will discuss the major issues and objectives of the company, as well as alternatives and solutions. Major issues of the company The primary issue of the company, at first seems to be the loss of market share. That is a common concern for all members of the organization. Mark, Buddy Jr. ’s , was hired in hopes that he could come up with new marketing strategies that could turn the company around and regain its market share. That gave rise to another issue, which was employee dissatisfaction and de-moralization. Mark’s new policies and, to some, even his quick promotion made the employees upset and lose faith in the company. As a result, employees are now less enthusiastic about their work or are overworked and can not perform efficiently. Such a situation can further worsen Buddy’s Snack Food Company’s market share due to inefficient employees. Also, the new policies had been implemented very quickly, following Mark’s quick promotion and the lack of communication and familiarization to the firm’s employees created a gap between the manager and the subordinates. Another issue that seems to be evident is the absence of any employee benefit programs. Employees don’t seem to be appreciated or rewarded for their good performance and are dealt with seriously, if the performance rating is low. Apart from this, there seems to be no concern about the employees’ living situation; single mothers are being required to attend extra sessions, when they have other responsibilities. This can affect their performance greatly in a negative way. Also, some of the employees seem to be unfit for the job and are not taking it seriously, while others are working hard. The two types need to be distinguished because if both of them are held accountable for similar reasons, the better employee is de-moralized. The company needs to change the way it manages its staff to ensure a better future. Finally, some of the employees are upset about Mark being ‘handed’ the position of the sales manager just because he’s the son of the owner. Many employees had been working hard towards getting that position and are now discouraged by the new change. Strategic goals and objectives Buddy’s company operates under the conventional strategies and objectives. It is a regular snack food business with a family-like working environment. Mark, after he acquired the position of sales manager, introduced some new policies. One of them was that if a certain sales employee receives a below average performance rating for any quarter, they would have to attend a mandatory session. The coaching session would be more or less a training/refreshment session where the employee’s issues are discussed and improvements are recommended. Unfortunately, this new move has not been very popular among the workforce. The issue is that some employees actually are underachievers and inefficient, while others are good employees, with an exceptional past record, but could not perform up to the standard because of the business situation and the declining market share. When the two types of employees are treated equally, the employee who works hard is de-moralized. Alternative strategies If Buddy’s Snack Food Company wants to achieve their goals, they would have to adopt a new strategy. The current approach is proving to be unpopular among the employees and would only result in an inefficient, de-moralized and overworked staff, and such a group of people are not fit to work as a team and achieve goals. Some of the alternative strategies would be: †¢ Better employee care package for staff members with families and children, with suitable work shifts. Employee appreciation: bonuses, incentives, employee-of-the-month program etc. †¢ Customer feedback on the sales representatives. †¢ A revised form of employee performance rating based on the current economic and business situation. †¢ Training and refreshment programs for all employees on a monthly or quarterly basis to ensure there is good communication, all problems are addressed and issues are discussed. Also, the employees’ performance would be measured in a better way through such meetings. †¢ More opportunities and promotions of employees showing consistent and excellent performance. Recommended Strategies and Hopeful Outcomes  Of all the alternative strategies discussed Buddy’s needs to adopt some or all of them to move towards their goal. A better employee care package is necessary as good employees like Lynda Lewis could benefit greatly from them. As a single mother of three sons, she has a lot of responsibility at home. An employee care package with flexible working shifts would allow her to spend more time with her family and perform even better than she already does. Also, the company can hold events like a mini funfair or a sporting event that would enable employees’ family and children to participate in the business and contribute. This would not only be a good marketing move by creating a better image of the company and advertise their name, but also an incentive for employees to feel happy and at-home when they work. Apart from this, employees need to be appreciated for their good work. With just an Employee of the Month program with a reward bonus, employees would be more enthusiastic about their work and perform better. Such incentives not only boost staff morale, but also the overall business because employees would work more and earn more in order to get the reward. Customer feedback would help the management know which employees are good team players and which are not. This would help in filtering out the ones that actually need the coaching sessions. Also, the management needs to consider the current economic situation that the company is going through before rating the employees’ performance. Such an evaluation would be fair. Training sessions for all employees every quarter or meetings would promote communication. All issues and problems would be addressed and the subordinates would have a chance to openly talk to the managers. Such communication allows the employees to be more comfortable working and feel that their opinion matters as well. Other than that, issues that the management might not even know about come into consideration and solutions are discussed as well. Working as a team motivates employees to perform better. Lastly, give promotion opportunities to hardworking employees rather than members of the owner’s family fresh out of college who might not know the company as well as the salesperson with more experience, working hard to keep it all together.

Introduction Sustainability is highly involved in the construction industry. Still, the use of the rules of sustainability in the construction projects has been a rather recent trend, if taking into consideration the effects of construction on the environment (Luff 2008). In addition, not all countries set sustainability as a term for accepting plans related to con struction projects (Luff 2008). UK is one of the countries that first recognized the value of sustainability in construction. It should be noted that the promotion of sustainability in construction has a series of implications, meaning especially the cost involved and the availability of expertise professionals for developing construction projects based on sustainability. Current paper focuses on a particular aspect of sustainability, as related to construction: the sustainable design and its constituents. The literature published in regard to this subject has been reviewed in explore the particular issue. It is revealed that sustainable design is a complex and demanding process which can be completed successfully only if it is appropriately supported in all its phases. 2. Sustainability design in construction 2.1 Key issues of sustainability in construction projects Sustainability, as part of a construction project, is commonly related to certain issues, such as ‘green buildi ng, energy and climate’ (Luff 2008, p.152). However, such approach is not correct. Sustainability could be effectively promoted through construction only if a series of additional issues would be addressed: issues such as ‘health, economics and transport’ (Luff 2008, p.152) should be considered as indispensable elements of sustainability, as the term is used in all sectors, not just in construction. Through a similar approach, the involvement of sustainability in construction has been related to the management of issues such as ‘the disposal of waste material used in construction projects and the use of environmental-friendly engineering systems’ (CERF 1996, p.95). The level at which sustainability will be involved in a construction project depends on the willingness of the project’s designer to incorporate sustainability in the project’s plan and the availability of resources required (CERF 1996). In order to understand the role of sus tainability in construction, it would be necessary to refer to the characteristics of sustainability in general. In the literature, sustainability has been defined as ‘the management of natural resource base†¦. and continued satisfaction of human needs for the present and future generations’ (Vogt et al. 2012, p.1). In the end, population growth has slowed somewhat, but at great costs. There have been political consequences, as many Western countries have criticized China for the policy, particularly their views on birth control and the rampant termination of pregnancies. China has, however, seen tremendous economic growth in recent years, but many fear that there will soon be an imbalance of males and females in the country. The Nightmare of the American Dream Essay The â€Å"American Dream†, an idea that success, freedom and equality exists according to each mans capabilities regardless of social status and ethnicity, is one that appeals to every American from all walks of life. After the Great Depression, the importance of realizing success, freedom and equality became a priority in the lives of many, including the Native Americans. The belief in the â€Å"American Dream† was deeply embedded in their hearts in a quest to dispel stereotypes about their community such as being poverty- stricken and primitive warriors who belonged in the jungles as they began to assimilate into the urban culture of a white dominated society. However, as one examines the American society today, such stereotypes still exists and may have been influential in the opportunities presented to the Native American communities or the lack thereof. In the story â€Å"The Red Convertible†, Louise Erdrich employs images associated with freedom as ironies in order to argue that the â€Å"American Dream† is a farce as the stereotypes attached to individual communities, in this case, the Native American communities will never be broken and the believe in such dreams will eventually lead to life-altering and undesirable outcomes. Erdrich consistently uses the image of the convertible that the brothers bought which would usually represent freedom and status connected with the ownership of an automobile in an ironical manner to show that the brothers will never be free and revered in society as a result of their ethnicity. Its colour, â€Å"of course it was red† (1-2), is a reminder of how Native American communities have lived with the stigma of being call Red Indians for centuries thus suggesting they will never be free of such derogatory labels. The brothers bought the car â€Å"reposed, calm and gleaming† (34) just as they bought into the promising idea of equality in the â€Å"American Dream†. Paralleling the journey of the gleaming car to Henry who had to leave for the war as many Native Americans were drafted to fight on the frontline, Lyman â€Å"had it up on blocks in the yard or half taken apart, because the long trip did a hard job on it† just as light-hearted Henry returns from the war a broken man, needing â€Å"repairs†. The ultimate irony is in the tragic ending of the convertible sinking into the river, representing the crushed dreams of equality and success as Henry returns to the same poverty-stricken life of the reservation which he assumed would change at the end of the war. To further illustrate the irony of the â€Å"American Dream†, Erdrich compares Henry to the rabbit which is essentially an animal that exists freely in the wild but who exists to be preyed just as Native Americans believing that they were equals in society but were actually preyed upon the stereotype that they were brave, natural warriors who would have skills to fight ruthlessly in the war. When Henry came back from the war, he was â€Å"jumpy and mean† (123) and when he was still, â€Å"it was the kind of stillness that you see in a rabbit when it freezes before it will bolt† (128-130). Henry was used as a prey in the war based on a stereotype without any regard for his humanity, now would bolt to protect himself as he realizes that the dream of equality he believed in was a lie which exploited his ethnicity instead of protecting it. As Lyman narrated another stereotype of Native Indians in the story: â€Å"We liked to tease him that they really wanted him for his Indian nose† (91-92), has more truth to it as many Native Americans were made to fight in the front line during the war resulting in an alarming rate of deaths. Lastly, Erdrich ironically uses imagery of nature as embodiments of hope and new beginnings and juxtaposed them against the brothers dreams of a better life which was tragically crushed. Lyman describes of the day when Henry suggests to take the car out for a spin after he fixed it: It was spring. The sun was shining very bright. My only sister, Bonita, who was just eleven years old came out and made us stand together for a picture. (194-196) The imagery of springtime which symbolizes hope and life and the Sun which symbolizes a gleaming future is what the brothers had believed in as they bought into the idea of the â€Å"American Dream† as a means of escaping their poverty stricken lives in the reservations. However, after  Henry â€Å"squint against the glare† (212) of the Sun in the photo as he could no longer believe in the dream after being exploited in the war. As Lyman later examines the picture, he realizes that Henry â€Å"might have drawn back , because the shadows on his face are deep as holes† (214-215) suggests that Henry will never again be the person that he was even in the hopeful time of Spring, he will always be a victim of the war and stereotypes hence unable to pursue forward to achieve success as promised in the â€Å"American Dream† he had believed earlier. In the later part of the story, Erdrich uses the image of the sun again, only this time in a deference to the tragedy of Henrys drowning as he is unable to live the life of poverty and despair as well as to the failure of the American dream which did not deliver its promise of equality and freedom as â€Å"the sun is down†(294). The ironical use of images of freedom in â€Å"The Red Convertible† shows that the â€Å"American Dream† did not deliver its promise of equality regardless of social status and ethnicity as stereotypes regarding the Native Americans continue to exist and such stereotypes not only has the ability to hurt an individual but can also have tragic consequences such as deaths of Native Americans in alarming numbers in the war as well as the death of Henry as he no longer believed in the dream.

Inhaled Salbutamol: Effects on the Body Introduction Salbutamol is a first-choice bronchodilator drug used in the acute treatment of asthma. Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease which causes recurrent reversible airway obstruction. An asthma attack is often triggered by an immediate hypersensitivity reaction that occurs in response to an inhaled allergen, causing acute bronchospasm in the lungs. Salbutamol treats the symptoms of asthma by reversing this bronchoconstriction. It acts as a ÃŽ ²-2-adrenoreceptor agonist, and when inhaled, it binds to beta-2-adrenoreceptors in the bronchial smooth muscle of the lungs, causing the muscle to relax. This leads to dilation of the bronchioles and improved airflow. Salbutamol has been shown to cause side effects such as tachycardia, muscle tremor, an increase in systolic blood pressure and a decrease in diastolic blood pressure. When salbutamol is absorbed into the bloodstream via the lungs, it can bind to ÃŽ ²-2-adrenoreceptors present on the heart and increase the heart rate. The stimulation of beta receptors also stimulates an increase in myocardial contractility which can increase pulse pressure. Salbutamol is usually administered by inhalation of aerosol, powder or nebulised solution, although it can also be administered intravenously. A metered-dose inhaler (MDI) is normally used for aerosol administration, which provides a standard dose of salbutamol. The spray from a MDI consists of rapidly moving propellant droplets, most of which impact in the mouth and throat where salbutamol absorption is poor, and only about 10% of the inhaled drug reaches the bronchioles. 2 This proportion may be further reduced by poor inhaler coordination since many patients fail ,3 to synchronise the firing of the aerosol with inhalation. With good coordination about 15% of the dose would be expected to reach the lungs.3 Using a spacer device has proved to raise deposition of salbutamol in the lungs to levels similar to or greater than those obtained from a correctly used metered dose inhaler. (Thorax 1984;39;935-941) The spacer is a large plastic container with a mouthpiece on one end and opening at other end where MDI is attached, and is most often used by young children and the elderly. The aim of this study was to determine the acute effects of inhaled salbutamol on heart rate, pulse pressure, and peak expiratory flow rate and to compare the efficacy of salbutamol delivered by metered-dose inhaler (MDI) with that of salbutamol delivered by metered-dose inhaler attached to a spacer (MDI-spacer). The efficacy of the two methods of salbutamol delivery were analysed by comparing the bronchodilator and cardiovascular effects of salbutamol in subjects taking the MDI and MDI-spacer. Materials and Methods 18 healthy subjects were studied with an age range of 18-35 (14 females and 4 males). Salbutamol (Ventolin ®) was supplied in pressurised, metered dose inhalers (MDI). The 18 subjects were divided randomly into three groups: placebo, MDI and MDI-spacer. Subjects in the placebo group used the placebo MDI inhaler which acted as the control. Subjects in the MDI group used the salbutamol MDI. To administer a standard dose of salbutamol, they exhaled fully, and then inhaled slowly through the opening just as the drug was released from the MDI, and then held their breath for 10 seconds. [manual]. Subjects in the MDI-spacer group used a salbutamol MDI with an attached spacer device. To inhale a single dose of salbutamol, the subjects attached the MDI to the end of the spacer, breathed in deeply through the mouthpiece and then held their breath for 10 seconds [Introduction to Exp Bio] .The standard dose released with each depression of the salbutamol MDI was 0.1mg. For each subject, control readings of heart rate, pulse pressure and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) were taken at 3 minute intervals for 12 minutes. At 12 minutes, two successive doses of the assigned inhaler were taken (2 x 0.1mg doses= 0.2mg), immediately after which the three variables were measured. This was repeated every 3 minutes until a total dose of 0.6mg salbutamol or placebo had been administered. Heart rate was measured manually using a stethoscope and stopwatch. Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and systolic blood pressure (SBP) were measured by using a sphyngomanometer and a stethoscope. [manual]. The pulse pressure was then calculated by subtracting the SBP from the DSB. The PEFR was measured using a Wright peak flow meter. Statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 16.0. The data were assumed not to have a normal distribution, and the results obtained from the different groups were independent of each other. The non-paired, non-parametric Mann-Whitney-U test was therefore used to determine whether there were significant differences in any of the measured variables as a result of the salbutamol MDI, when compared to the placebo control. The test was also used to determine if there was a significant difference between the results of the MDI and MDI-spacer groups which would have been caused by the use of the spacer. For each subject, the overall change in a variable from the mean control value after a 0.6mg dose, was used to compare the results of subjects from different groups. Although created by black youth on the streets, hip hop's influence has become well received by a number of different races in this country. A large number of the rap and hip hop audience is non-black. It has gone from the fringes, to the suburbs, and into the corporate boardrooms. Because it has become the fastest growing music genre in the U.S., companies and corporate giants have used its appeal to capitalize on it. Although critics of rap music and hip hop seem to be fixated on the messages of sex, violence, and harsh language, this genre offers a new paradigm of what can be (Lewis, 1998.) The potential of this art form to mend ethnic relations is substantial. Hip hop has challenged the system in ways that have unified individuals across a rich ethnic spectrum. This art form was once considered a fad has kept going strong for more than three decades. Generations consisting of Blacks, Whites, Latinos, and Asians have grown up immersed in hip-hop. Hip hop represents a realignment of America?s cultural aesthetics. Rap songs deliver a message, again and again, to keep it real. Sherlock Holmes The Man with the Twisted Lip In this short story, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mr. Neville St. Clair has been kidnapped. His wife is in town one day and she sees him hanging outside of a window. As she looks up at him, he lets out a scream and is yanked back into the room from where he stands. She is very concerned about seeing her husband in this situation and thinks that he is in trouble. She runs to the entrance of the building that she saw him standing in and she tries to get upstairs to where he is and help him. She is stopped by the doorman and not allowed access to the upstairs. Once the police get to the scene, they barge into the upstairs area and discover that Mr. Neville St. Clair is not in the room. The only person in the room is a beggar man named Hugh Boone. Everyone is familiar with Boone because he sits in the city and begs for a living. The police demand an explanation on where St. Clair is and there is not one given by Boone or the doorman. On the backside of the building there was a body of water that at high tide came up to the bottom of the lone window in the room. Traces of blood were found on the window seal of this window and drops of blood on the floor. The clothing of St. Clair was found in the corner of the room and his coat was found in the water at the bottom of the window. The assumption was made that Boone killed St. Clair and the body was disposed of in the water. The police detained Boone but the body was not found. Sherlock Holmes was interested in finding the body. Holmes, along with Watson, went to the St. Clair home and interviewed Mrs. St. Clair. Holmes admitted to Mrs. St. Clair that the he thought her husband might still be living. She agreed with great anticipation and told her that the most startling thing had happened to her that day. It was three days since the disappearance of her husband and she had received a letter dated AFTER her husband’s disappearance. Holmes asked to see the letter so he could examine it.

A Critical Analysis of an Ethical Proposition Based

Ethical situations on the subject of killing and the sacrifice of human lives are always subject to critical analysis and intensive argumentation. The so-called sacrifice of the few for the good of the many is usually founded upon Aquinas’ Natural Law and Doctrine of Double Effect, both of which were logically formulated by the philosopher yet both also lend themselves to criticisms.Aquinas defines the Natural Law based on the Eternal Law. He formulated the Eternal Law in his Summa Theologiae and defines it as â€Å"the idea in God’s intellect by which He governs the world† (Magee, 1999). The Natural Law according to Aquinas is â€Å"humans’ participation in the Eternal Law through reason and will† (Magee, 1999).The Doctrine of Double Effect, on the other hand, is defined as a set of ethical criteria for evaluating whether one should do an act that would, in the process of producing a positive effect, also produce a negative effect (McIntyre, 2009). Our ethical proposition â€Å"It is always wrong to kill innocent people, even if you could save many other lives by doing so† is a rather weak proposition after it is analyzed with reference to Aquinas’ two aforementioned doctrines.Critical AnalysisWith Reference to the Natural Law. There are various different levels of precepts that the Natural Law entails. The first of which is â€Å"Good is to be done and pursued and evil avoided† (Magee, 1999).However, Aquinas has specified that a â€Å"good† thing is something â€Å"that we know immediately, by inclination†¦that [would] count as good and thus to be pursued† (Murphy, 2008). Aquinas specifies these things as life, knowledge, procreation, society, and reasonable conduct.First Precept. Applying the above precept to the given ethical situation, â€Å"It is always wrong to kill innocent people, even if you could save many other lives by doing so,† one can see that the whole proposition logically satisfies the first part of the precept â€Å"Good is to be done and pursued.† Both the act of not killing innocent people and saving many other lives are believed to be inherently good, that is, good in itself. However, the proposition might not in a way satisfy the second part of the precept â€Å"[that] evil [should be] avoided.†This is because the proposition implies a prohibition of killing innocent people, which, if done, would result in a possible non-fulfillment of the second part of the proposition: â€Å"You could save many other lives by doing so.† If many other lives are not saved, then this means one has allowed the evil of death to take lives away, thus evil is not avoided, which is the second part of the precept. In short, our proposition fails the first precept of the Natural Law.Second Precept. Another precept of the Natural Law is that it â€Å"commands that we preserve ourselves in being† and one thing that can be deduced fro m this is that one is required to â€Å"take care of [his life] and transmit that life to the next generation† (Magee, 1999).This may obviously refer to the goodness of procreation but it may not be necessarily the case because such a statement may translate to the preservation of the self for the benefit of the next generation. This precept on preservation may agree with the first part of the given ethical proposition: â€Å"it is always wrong to kill innocent people,† for the killing of people, whether innocent or not, opposes the idea of self-preservation. However, the second part of the proposition, â€Å"you could save many other lives by doing so, or by killing innocent people,† does not agree with the precept on preservation.The reason is that if you decide to preserve the lives of the innocent, then your action may result in the non-preservation of the lives of many others. This now serves as another proof of the weakness of the given proposition vis-à  -vis the precept of the Natural Law on preservation.With Reference to the Doctrine of Double Effect. The proposition, â€Å"It is always wrong to kill innocent people, even if you could save many other lives by doing so,† lends itself to more criticisms on the weakness of its argument when criticized with reference to the Doctrine of Double Effect.The doctrine consists of four conditions that must be met before one can declare an act morally permissible (McIntyre, 2009). And for this the proposition should be constructed into a conditional sentence: If one kills innocent people, it is wrong and hence presumed to be not morally permissible. Therefore the moral permissibility of the killing of innocent people will be evaluated vis-à  -vis the four conditions of the Doctrine of Double Effect. Furthermore, the claim of the proposition that killing innocent people is morally wrong under all circumstances will be logically investigated.First Condition. The first condition is the nature-of-the-act condition, which states that â€Å"the action must be either morally good or indifferent† (McIntyre, 2009). This may somehow oppose what we are intending to prove. It is indeed true that the killing of innocent people is not morally good nor is it morally indifferent.Second Condition. The second condition is the means-end condition, which states that â€Å"the bad effect must not be the means by which one achieves the good effect† (McIntyre, 2009).This is also a proof in favor of the proposition. If the goal is to avoid the death of many other lives, then it follows, according to the second condition, that death should not be meted out on innocent people just for the sake of the many others. Based on the second condition, death must not be utilized to avoid death. With the second condition, he proposition remains solid.Third Condition. The third condition is the right-intention condition, which states that â€Å"the intention must be the achieving of only the good effect, with the bad effect being only an unintended side effect† (McIntyre, 2009). It is now here that the proposition weakens.Based on the context of the proposition, the killing of innocent people, without any regard to the inherent morality or immorality of the act, has the intention of achieving only the good effect of saving many other people’s lives, thus making the killing of the innocent a morally permissible act. The bad effect, which is the death of the innocent, is anyway simply a side effect.Fourth Condition. The last condition is the proportionality condition, which states that â€Å"the good effect must be at least equivalent in importance to the bad effect† (McIntyre, 2009).Although there will always be a question about the exactness of such an equivalence of importance, the majority may agree that, in the proposition, the saving of the lives of many far outweighs the killing of the lives of but a few innocent people. This therefore dismisses the killing of the innocent as a morally permissible act and such an argument counters the proposition.

Recently, Ukraine has had some complications with intergovernmental protesters, sometimes it led to death. These protestors are trying to have their voices heard regarding President Victor Hancock rejection to the agreement with the European union in November 2013; it was said that there were stronger ties with Russia, The protestors were outraged because they wanted to Integrate with Europe. Some protestors believed thatHancock was striving for power and wasn't serving the interests of his people. Hancock actually signed into law ten interposes laws that the Parliament of Ukraine created. This will take away freedom of speech; affect the non-governmental organizations, as well as many others. This seems to make sense when you look at the history of the Ukraine. For centuries, there have battles over Ukrainian position between East and West. In the 17th century, Eastern Ukraine was under Russia imperial rule. In the west there were shifting control of European powers, such as Poland and the Castro-HungarianEmpire. This might help explain why the west is more likely to choose â€Å"Western- leaning politicians† (Contact) and is more Ukraine-speaking with a Catholic influence; whereas, the east is more Russian-speaking and Orthodox. Jackson was a man of many faces, and many of his views were not democratic. First, Jackson was not democratic for economic reasons, such as the Bank veto. Second, Jackson was not democratic for political reasons, such as implementing the Spoils system. Third, Jackson was not democratic for social reasons, such as being pro-slavery. Jacksonian views are not democratic. First, Jackson was not democratic for political reasons. During his presidency many of his actions were viewed as tyrannical and his behavior reflected that of a king rather than of a president. One person drew a cartoon of Jackson, where he is wearing a crown, holding a scepter in his hand, and trampling on the Constitution (Doc 11). This represents that people saw Andrew Jackson as â€Å"King Andrew† because he did whatever he wanted and acted like a dictator by disobeying the Constitution. Another example was when Jackson implemented the Spoils System, which was when the President appointed his supporters with government jobs. Jackson argued that there aren’t many major qualifications necessary for government jobs and that anyone can do it (Doc 4). However, opponents of Jackson considered him a tyrant because he replaced experienced politicians with illiterate farmers who had no political experience just because they supported his campaign. Jackson was not democratic for many political reasons. Second, Jackson was not democratic for economic reasons. To start, Jackson vetoed the bill to recharter the Second Bank of the United States. He claimed that he was protecting the democracy from corruption but in reality, he feared that the bankers would campaign against him. Jackson was a tyrant who destroyed the national bank for personal issues (Doc 8) and he was quoted as saying, â€Å"The Bank is trying to kill me but I will kill it.† Next, Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act, which forced the Indians to move west. Even though the Indians did not want to leave their lands and move into unknown lands, Jackson forced them to (Doc 6). Jackson argued that the white settlers needed the land and could make better use of it and could make the land more economically productive than the Indians had been able  to. Jackson was not democratic for these economic reasons. Third, Jackson was not a democratic president for social reasons. He did not believe in equality for all people. Jackson owned a large number of slaves during his presidency (Doc 5). This shows how Jackson supported slavery and only equality when it referred to white males. Jackson also treated the Native Americans very poorly. Jackson believed that Native Americans were inferior to whites’, and that it was not necessary to treat them fairly. He believed that Native Americans were children in need of guidance (Doc 10). He helped them by â€Å"guiding† them out of their lands and sending them on the Trail of Tears in which more than 4,000 Cherokee die of cold, hunger and disease. Jackson was not a democratic president due to many social reasons.

This lead to development of new factory units and these Factories were involved in the production of war machines and other related equipments. It also created new vacancies and since majority of the men were either fighting for the country or wounded only few men were available to fill up these huge vacancies. This was also the main reason for the sudden shortage of workforce. Due to shortage of workforce, the production was greatly affected. As national interest was involved, the government started showing more concern towards this issue. As a result, the Government decided to involve the women folks of that area to work in the place of men. At the beginning response from the women was very less. Though few women came forward to work, they were only willing to do the traditional female jobs such as clerical or administrative works. They were not willing to do the so called traditional male jobs and they were not willing to work in the f actories. But as there was huge vacancy in these types of jobs the government wanted to employ women in these types of jobs. The call for to work in the factories by the Government was responded mostly by women belonging to minority and lower class who were already employed in some other work. They just shifted from the low paid desk work to a better paid job. This did not help to reduce the need for work force in any way. Hence girls graduating from high schools were also recruited. This also did not suffice the need for the work force. So, the government turned its attention towards house wives. As the majority of the women were housewives, the government started targeting house wives for these kinds of jobs. The male population of the city was totally against this. They thought that by employing housewives the future of the children will be spoiled. In the beginning housewives, especially, with children were prevented from going to work. The government really had a very hard time in bring those women to work. United States of America being a democratic country was not able to force these people to work.
